Meet Zach! After six years of service and four deployments, Zach, our Warehouse Assistant and Maintenance Technician, takes the lessons he learned while serving in the Army and applies them to his everyday life.
Zach's Story -
Zach joined the Army at age 21 and served for six years and was deployed four times, once to Babylon in the providence of Iraq, Egypt, Mexico, and Africa. In May of 2009, his humvee was blown up, and after two lower back surgeries and continuous rehab, his injuries from this incident still linger. Zach deals with his pain on a day-to-day basis with fitness and staying busy to keep his mind occupied.
When asked what has been one thing he has taken away from his time serving, Zach replied, "It's hard to put into words, but the majority is that hate is such a hard word, and people are quick to jump to that before you really see what a person is and can be."
Zach’s last day in the Army was Christmas Day 2013. He noted that his transition out of the Army and into everyday society again was difficult, but Chike has been his place to fit in after service and that he has found his community here.
Zach spends every Memorial Day participating in a Walk to Remember in honor of a friend and lost soldier that he served with in the Army. We are inspired by and thankful for the sacrifice that Zach and our past and active military have made and want to honor our nation's heroes this Memorial Day. We will never be able to say thank you enough for the sacrifice they have all made.
